Sister Hood & Hip-Hop Academy at Urbandocks, Hamburg

, by Bart Van Kersavond

The Urbandocks is regarded as a central contact point for hip-hop fans in Hamburg and offers a creative meeting place for dancers and artists. Created through the collaboration of the Stiftung Kultur Palast and the OZM, the Urbandocks combines a variety of functions.

It is a place that combines experience, art exhibition, studio and trendy meeting place. In addition to courses and workshops, such as graffiti courses with the Hamburg artists Stok la Rock and JaseOne, Urbandocks offers an open platform for exchange and creativity. Here, interested parties can create art together and become part of the global hip-hop culture.

The exhibition Sister Hood was part of the larger exhibition Female Frames. Sister Hood highlights the importance of FLINTA* people (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) in the graffiti scene and shows their contribution to a culture that has traditionally been dominated by male actors. The exhibition highlights the challenges faced by FLINTA* people as well as their successes and influence on graffiti culture.
