EXIT + FUME Exhibition, Töchter & Söhne, Düsseldorf

, by Bart Van Kersavond

“Düsseldorf, like any other big city in the western world, is home to a lot of sprayers. In the city on the Rhine, however, two protagonists are responsible for the fact that this city is also perceived globally in the graffiti world: Eksit and Fume. No one other than these busy writers has managed to become so well known nationwide. Fume comes from the first and Eksit from the third generation of serious graffiti artists in Düsseldorf. 1992 was the year in which Eksit was finally able to give his creative urge an outlet and in 1984 Fume made a start. Graffiti as a form of expression in the first place and now finally on canvases to “take home”. Whether legal or illegal, for them both it is simply important to make, make and make. You could also call it ADHD with purely creative output. The background is almost secondary, if they hadn’t been so keen on painting trains from the start. Both have also made it to the Mecca of modern graffiti to bomb subways, namely to New York, the birthplace of the scene. Today, as in their early days, both are constantly looking to spread their signs and there is no end in sight.”

Exhibition only runs until 28 October
