The San Hejmo Festival invites its visitors to their new ‘holy home’ on 20 August. After the musical line-up has already been published, the organisers now present the international selection of 25 exciting street artists such as Bordalo II from Portugal and the German-Pakistani mural artist Hera, who will decorate the entire area with outdoor artworks.
In addition to hip music from acts such as Marteria, Loredana, Giant Rooks or Querbeat, San Hejmo offers many crazy, impressive, enjoyable and relaxed places throughout the festival area. The result is a mix of inspiring impressions for all senses and an unforgettable festival day full of positive vibes. The festival map with all the highlights always serves as a guide.
The now published line-up of 25 street artists from Germany and Europe unites long-time successful stars of the scene and promising newcomers. Together they will create the look of the festival and at the same time an unmistakable art experience. In San Hejmo, they will present different forms of art in public space, including murals, installations, graffiti and paintings. Their creations often have the intuition to convey important messages to the viewers. The process of creation becomes part of the festival experience, and San Hejmo becomes the artists’ creative home for a few days.
Top-class line-up with street artists from all over the world. With a massive upcycled sculpture made of plastic and scrap metal, Portuguese artist Bordalo II will enrich the festival premiere. He is famous for creating stunning animal sculptures out of street trash – with a strong message to warn people about environmental pollution and endangered (animal) species. His works are referred to as “trash art”. Artur Bordalo is in extreme demand at festivals and art fairs worldwide, he lives and works in Lisbon
The German-Pakistani graffiti artist Jasmin Siddiqui alias Hera combines touching motifs – often of girls and women – with distinctive typography and forceful messages in her large-scale murals. Her artworks can be seen all over the world, adorning facades from Sao Paulo to Moscow, from Miami to Kathmandu, from Paris to Melbourne.
Artist and muralist Daniel Westermeier creates unique graffitis and murals under the pseudonym Mister Woodland. The artworks of the trained grafic designer often show figures close to reality in combination with graphical elements. In 2019, he organised and curated the Mural Art Festival Artding in his hometown of Erding for the first time. The intention: to create an open-air gallery in the city that is open all year round. In summer, he will be part of the San Hejmo’s special street artist line-up, he will help to create the ‘open-air gallery’ in the ‘Sacred Home’.
Benjamin Taag is co-curator of the street art line-up for San Hejmo. In his home town of Goch, the urban art enthusiast initiated the ‘Goch history meets Street Art’ as a Corona project. network to support the San Hejmo crew: “At San Hejmo we want to show a broad spectrum of this currently extremely successful branch of art worldwide. We are proud that international stars have accepted our invitation to the tranquil Lower Rhine! But we are also looking forward to the promising newcomers and, above all, to inspiring days together with the artists. San Hejmo is set to become a popular, multicultural get-together for the street art scene here in Weeze!
Ardif is a Parisian street artist whose incomparable style of hybridising architecture, machines and nature sets him apart. His series “Mechanimals” includes spectacular murals and paintings of people or animals that are half made of mechanics. With his art, he points above all to the effects of artificiality on nature.
Gita Kurdpoor has always been fascinated by the beauty and otherness of things – which puts her in very good hands in San Hejmo! The Kurdish-Iranian street artist is one of the high-flyers in the street art line-up, her trademark being almost endlessly detailed mandala motifs. She not only overcame her fear of heights to create her first mural on a 25-metre-high house wall at the Berlin Mural Fest 2021. The huge version of her motif also makes the power and grace of her art overwhelmingly tangible.
The Dorfmasche from Neukirchen-Vluyn is the prime example of the versatility and offeness of the urban art scene. For 10 years, the group has combined a passion for knitting and crochet with communal fun and joie de vivre, regardless of age. Far from the hip metropolitan clamour, the 30 women and men aged 55 to 95 create colourful outdoor art from wool, from seas of flowers to giant teepees to wall decorations for entire houses. An indispensable addition to the diverse artistic orientation of the San Hejmo Festival from the Lower Rhine neighbourhood.
For its premiere on 20 August 2022, the San Hejmo Festival will be open for one day (opening hours: 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.) and without camping for around 25,000 visitors. The music and culture festival is open to everyone aged 16 and over. The regular ticket price is 89 euros.
