Curating the NOW

Was ist eigentlich dieses „Jetzt“? Eine abstrakte Idee, gefangen zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft. Ein „Jetzt“ jagt das Nächste. Das „Jetzt“ kann nichts und alles sein.
Die im Museum of „Now” präsentierten KünstlerInnen haben eigene, zum Teil durchaus unterschiedliche, Auffassungen und Herangehensweisen bezüglich des „Jetzt“.

A sound as a metronome of the three seconds beat, which neuroscientifically defines the “now” by the artist Deus Ex Lumina, Susanne Rottenbacher´s light sculpture, which freezes a moment in time, the photographs of Marius Glauer and Valentyn Odnoviuns capture the very essence of “now”, the paintings of global social issues by Amoako Boafo, Denis Haračić, Maximiliano León and Robert Elfgen with their art that happens in real time, just like the performance by Olek or the interactive pieces by TpT and The Krank, a video work “Un Instant” by Nour Shantout and the expansive installation by O’mom that brings fictional Japanese animes of the past into the “now”, turning a prophecy into reality. A seven-meter-high sphere, Mega Viki, symbolizing the power of contemporary egos in our daily “now”.

All diese unterschiedlichen Konzepte, Medien und Techniken werden in einem singulären Raum mit dem Titel „Museum“ präsentiert.
Ein Museum, im klassischen Sinne als Tempel in dem die Musen wohnen, fundiert auf folgenden Säulen: Sammeln, Bewahren, Forschen, Ausstellen und Vermitteln.
Das Museum of Now hingegen ist als „travelling house“ konzipiert. Es ist an keinen Ort gebunden und permanent auf der Suche nach dem Beat einer Stadt oder dem Zeitgeist einer Bewegung. Das Museum of Now kann alles sein, ein Kiosk auf einer römischen Piazza, ein Pfahlbau am Amazonas, ein Stadtviertel in Detroit oder eine Lagerhalle in Berlin-Neukölln, solange es eine Botschaft beinhaltet, die jetzt artikuliert werden muss.

Das Museum of Now legt den Fokus insbesondere auf das Vermitteln von zeitgenössischer Kunst mit dem zentralen Anliegen freien Zugang zur Kunst zu schaffen. Exemplarisch hierfür steht die kollaborative Installation von TpT und The Krank, ein Ping-Pong-Tisch, welcher als interaktives Kunstwerk einen alltäglichen Gegenstand in eine neuartige Erfahrung transformiert.
Das MON ↻ NOW lädt jeden dazu ein, gemeinsam Teil des Jetzt zu sein.

For ten days in October a former steel warehouse from the 1920´s will be pulsating in a three seconds cycle of “now”. Fourteen artists from eleven nations take a stance on topics that are relevant now. In dealing with these positions, it is noticeable that, despite the different media, techniques and personal backgrounds, the same questions repeatedly come to the forefront: Starting with the localization of the individual in a globalized world, the search for one’s own identity, the rapid change of social norms up to the question which new paths the art in the 21st century can still take, if everything was conceived and articulated in many forms already.
