Review “Discover Street art in Marrakesh”-Exhibition, Berlin Sep 2018

, by Bart Van Kersavond

During the Urban Art Week 2018 , I presented my photo exhibition “Discover Street Art in Marrakesh”.

While searching for an exhibition space in Berlin, I came across the REH (Raumerweiterungshalle). This accordion container, which was built in the 1960s, has been standing on a wasteland in my former neighborhood in Prenzlauer Berg since 2010 and serves normally as a showroom for “recycled furniture”. This original place became the backdrop of my photo exhibition: a temporary place with history, a friendly and relaxed owner and an ideal inviting space, open for a spontaneous presentation with public traffic.

On the basis of five themes, I wanted to show the diversity of street art in Marrakech and its development over several years. During the exhibition I was positively surprised about the lively interest of the visitors and the intensive exchange. Marrakech lovers were given a different view of the city through my photos, and street art novices were initiated into the broad spectrum.

The highlight of my exhibition was the finissage with a live painting act by the Berlin based artist Feliz. In 2017 we met by chance in Marrakech and spontaneously spent a whole day together driving around with a scooter. At the end of the day, Feliz showed me one of his works at a remote location, which became my favorite photographic motif.

Thanks and “cheers” to Bierlinie that sponsored delicious Belgian strong beer for the event.
