jardin rouge visit, october 2017 – marrakesh
after having talked about the project so much this summer at my “jardin rouge” photo exhibition in berlin, i was looking forward to my third visit there.
via facebook and an arte report, i was up-to-date regarding the activities on site. now i was curious to see what had happened locally since my last visit there a year and a half ago.
on my first day in morocco, i rented a scooter straightaway and enjoyed taking off on my way to the jardin rouge.
once there, you pass several buildings and works of art on the quiet grounds to arrive at the reception area. as was the case on previous visits, it’s elise who takes the time to give me a tour. while going through all the studios, she offers me insights into everyday life at the jardin rouge, and then I am introduced to the artists.
an international group gathers around the lunch table and everyone can chat and exchange information.
after coffee, we take a look at the montresso art space. unfortunately, it is being remodeled for the next exhibition, but it still remains a very impressive room where I would enjoy sitting down to observe the set-up and also process the day’s impressions. but now it’s time for me to take pictures; not only of the compound, but also at the river. this is the most exciting spot for me, because it is here that one goes back to the roots of street art: artists spray outdoors, not always certain about what will happen to the works. and yes, due to the current construction work, some outstanding works have disappeared. but the good thing is that a lot of new areas are being created, which is why I am already looking forward to my next visit.
